The GPFG’s ethical investment guidelines were introduced in 2004. Since then, the fund has grown substantially. It has invested in more companies, the size of its shareholdings has increased and the geographic spread of its investments has expanded – not least in emerging markets.

The Committee will consider:

– Whether the existing guidelines for observation and exclusion should be amended, including the removal of certain criteria or the addition of new ones.
– The application and effectiveness of different responses.
– Whether existing measures are appropriate for investing in countries whose legislation and regulations violate recognised international conventions and ethical standards, and in countries where access to information is poor.

The Ethics Committee’s starting point will be the purpose and principles that underpin the current guidelines for ethical and responsible investment. The review should/will be based on ethical norms that have broad support in Norwegian society and are rooted in international agreements and initiatives which Norway endorses.
